Pediatric Developmental Services
Pediatric Developmental Services is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired to join our team in Algona, King County. This full-time position offers you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with visual impairments while working within a collaborative, student-centered school environment.
About the Role
As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you will provide specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, guiding them toward academic excellence and independence. You'll work within a supportive team environment committed to helping every student develop their unique strengths and achieve their educational goals.
What You'll Do
- Develop and deliver individualized instruction tailored to each student's visual abilities, learning style, and educational needs
- Create and adapt curriculum materials using braille, large print, tactile graphics, and assistive technology
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and families to support students' integration and success across school programs
- Teach functional life skills, orientation and mobility concepts, and technology access strategies
- Maintain detailed records and participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) development and review meetings
What We're Looking For
- State teaching certification or licensure as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (or equivalent qualification)
- Demonstrated experience teaching students with visual impairments or related disabilities
- Strong knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and specialized teaching methodologies
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership
- Passion for student success and commitment to creating an inclusive, engaging learning environment
- Ability to maintain accurate records and work within special education compliance requirements
