About the Role
The District Finance Director serves as the principal financial steward for Sidney Public Schools. You'll oversee all aspects of district finance—from daily cash management to long-term fiscal planning—ensuring that every dollar supports student success and operational efficiency. This position reports to the Superintendent and collaborates across departments to align financial decisions with educational priorities.
What You'll Do
- Manage payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for all district staff
- Oversee accounts payable and vendor management, maintaining strong internal controls and compliance
- Develop and maintain district budgets that reflect institutional values and constraints
- Conduct financial forecasting to anticipate revenue trends and budget pressures
- Implement financial systems, policies, and procedures that strengthen accountability and transparency
- Prepare financial reports and audit-ready documentation for school board review and state reporting
- Work with building administrators, department heads, and community members on fiscal planning
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and grant allocations to optimize district resources
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in school district finance, government accounting, or comparable public-sector financial management
- Deep knowledge of K-12 budget cycles, funding formulas, and education finance regulations
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheet analysis, and financial reporting tools
- Strong communication skills—ability to explain financial data clearly to non-financial audiences
- Demonstrated commitment to data integrity, compliance, and fiscal responsibility
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; CPA or CGFM preferred
