Assistant Property Manager (Sec 8 /Affordable Housing)

Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation is hiring an Assistant Property Manager in Palmer Square, Chicago to support the management of our Section 8 and affordable housing portfolio. This full-time role offers the chance to deliver meaningful housing support to our residents while working alongside an experienced Property Manager.

About the Role

As Assistant Property Manager for our Section 8 rental apartments, you'll take ownership of occupancy operations and ensure our residents have the support they need to maintain stable, quality housing. Working under the direction of the Property Manager, you'll handle the core processes that keep our communities running smoothly and compliant with all HUD requirements.

What You'll Do

• Manage the Section 8 resident recertification process, including documentation review, income verification, and timely HUD submission
• Handle all occupancy-related tasks: lease administration, move-ins, lease renewals, and tenant transitions
• Serve as the primary contact for resident questions and concerns, building positive relationships with our community
• Track rental payments, maintain financial records, and process account transactions
• Coordinate with maintenance and vendors on property repairs and upkeep
• Maintain organized tenant files and occupancy documentation to ensure compliance
• Support Property Manager with inspections, inspections planning, and property compliance activities

What We're Looking For

• Experience in property management, community development, affordable housing, or a related field
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
• Proficiency with property management software and standard office tools
• Familiarity with Section 8 or HUD regulations (or eagerness to develop expertise)
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with residents and staff
• Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accurate record-keeping
