CDM Smith is seeking an experienced International PFAS Forensics Subject Matter Expert to join our environmental consulting team in Saint Andrews, Charleston County. This is a full-time position for a senior technical professional who will lead forensic investigations into per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination and provide expert guidance on remediation strategies for global clients.
About the Role
As an International PFAS Forensics Subject Matter Expert, you will be the go-to authority on complex PFAS contamination cases. You'll conduct detailed forensic analyses to identify contamination sources, transport pathways, and receptor exposure, while helping clients develop defensible remediation approaches. Your work will span multiple jurisdictions and regulatory environments, requiring deep expertise in international environmental standards and emerging PFAS science.
What You'll Do
- Lead forensic investigation and analysis of PFAS contamination sites, from historical research to groundwater and surface water assessment
- Develop and execute PFAS sampling strategies and analytical protocols that meet regulatory requirements across multiple regions and jurisdictions
- Provide technical guidance to project teams on PFAS source identification, fate and transport modeling, and remedial alternatives
- Prepare technical memoranda, regulatory correspondence, and expert reports for clients and environmental agencies
- Support due diligence investigations for real estate transactions, mergers, and acquisitions involving PFAS contamination risk
- Stay current on evolving PFAS regulations, health-based standards, and emerging remediation technologies globally
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to proposal development for PFAS-related consulting projects
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in chemistry, environmental science, geology, or related field
- 8+ years of professional experience with PFAS analysis, environmental site assessment, or contamination investigation
- Strong knowledge of PFAS chemistry, environmental fate and transport, and regulatory frameworks in the US and internationally
- Proven ability to manage complex technical investigations and communicate findings to diverse stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
- Experience with groundwater assessment, soil sampling, and environmental forensics
- Professional licensure (PE, PG, or similar) preferred
