About the Role
As an On-Call and Switchboard Operator, you'll serve as the first point of contact for our facility, handling diverse communication needs while maintaining the composure and accuracy that healthcare environments demand. This is a hands-on position where your reliability and attention to detail contribute to seamless operations across clinical and administrative departments.
What You'll Do
- Answer, screen, and route incoming calls to appropriate departments and personnel
- Conduct patient interviews to assess needs and direct callers to suitable resources
- Schedule and cancel patient appointments using facility systems
- Identify emergency calls and immediately activate appropriate response protocols for situations including cardiac events, trauma cases, fires, and disaster scenarios
- Coordinate between internal departments and external emergency services
- Maintain accurate call records and documentation as required
- Evaluate caller inquiries and determine the most effective next steps
- Support facility operations during evening and overnight hours
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to remain calm and focused in fast-paced, sometimes high-stress situations
- Strong communication skills with clear phone presence and professional demeanor
- Proficiency with multi-line phone systems and basic computer systems
- Detail-oriented approach to managing schedules, records, and emergency protocols
- Reliability and commitment to consistent availability during assigned shifts
- Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus
