Are you a skilled heavy equipment operator ready to put your medium excavator expertise to work in public service? Jefferson Parish is hiring an Equipment Operator III - Medium Excavator (2373) in Gretna, Jefferson Parish, to support critical sewerage infrastructure work.
About the Role
This full-time, on-site position with Jefferson Parish Civil Service is being filled through a competitive examination process. The exam establishes an employment list to fill one current vacancy in the Department of Sewerage on the West Jefferson side. The same list will also be drawn upon to fill future vacancies in both East and West Jefferson across a range of departments as they become available, making this an opportunity with strong potential for continued public-sector placement.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a medium excavator to support sewerage and related public works projects.
- Carry out excavation, digging, and earth-moving tasks in accordance with departmental standards and safety protocols.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance checks to keep equipment in safe working order.
- Coordinate with crew members and supervisors to complete assigned field work efficiently.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures to protect yourself, coworkers, and the public.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience operating medium excavators or comparable heavy equipment.
- Working knowledge of safe equipment operation and standard field safety practices.
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying conditions.
- Willingness to complete the required Jefferson Parish Civil Service examination to be placed on the employment list.
