Gpac is hiring a full-time Commercial Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on medium-sized commercial projects in Bakersfield, Kern County — a role built for an experienced builder who thrives running jobs from dirt to ribbon-cutting.
About the Role
This Superintendent position puts you in charge of day-to-day site leadership on commercial construction projects valued at up to approximately $20 million. You'll own the field from preconstruction through final closeout, keeping schedules tight, crews coordinated, and quality uncompromising on every project you run in the greater Bakersfield area.
What You'll Do
- Direct all daily field operations, maintaining momentum and accountability across the full project lifecycle
- Coordinate and manage subcontractors, ensuring scopes are clearly communicated and work is executed to plan
- Develop, maintain, and update construction schedules — identifying conflicts early and driving recovery plans when needed
- Enforce OSHA and project-specific safety standards; conduct toolbox talks and document all safety activities
- Perform and document quality control inspections at key milestones throughout construction
- Manage owner, third-party, and jurisdictional inspections from foundation through certificate of occupancy
- Oversee project closeout: punch list completion, as-built documentation, and owner turnover
- Collaborate closely with the project manager on RFIs, submittals, change orders, and budget impact at the field level
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant jobsite that reflects the company's standards
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated track record superintending commercial construction projects, including projects approaching $20M in value
- Deep knowledge of commercial construction sequencing, means and methods, and subcontractor management
- Strong command of project scheduling tools and the ability to read and enforce construction documents
- Solid understanding of OSHA regulations and proven ability to maintain a safety-first culture in the field
- Experience managing inspections and working directly with building departments and third-party inspectors
- Clear, professional communication skills — with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal staff
- Self-directed and highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities on an active commercial jobsite
- Local knowledge of the Bakersfield and Kern County construction market is a plus
