The State of Montana is hiring a full-time Access Technician to join its team in Great Falls, Cascade County — a role central to the security, integrity, and operational continuity of state-managed facilities serving Montana residents every day.
About the Role
As an Access Technician with the State of Montana in Great Falls, you will install, administer, and maintain physical access control systems that protect state facilities and the people who use them. This is an in-person, full-time position that sits at the intersection of facilities management, IT coordination, and public-sector security operations in Cascade County.
What You'll Do
- Install, configure, and maintain electronic access control hardware — including card readers, door controllers, keypads, and electronic locking mechanisms
- Issue, update, and revoke user credentials in accordance with agency security policies and access authorization protocols
- Diagnose and resolve access system malfunctions promptly to minimize disruption to facility operations
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance and inspections on access control equipment
- Coordinate with facilities, IT, and security teams to implement system upgrades and configuration changes
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of access assignments, system configurations, and service activity
- Respond to service requests and urgent access-related issues across assigned state locations
- Support compliance with state security standards, agency policies, and applicable regulations
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on experience with electronic access control systems, physical security technology, or a related technical discipline
- Ability to read technical documentation, wiring schematics, and system configuration guides
- Methodical troubleshooting approach for diagnosing both hardware and software issues in security systems
- Familiarity with credential management software or access control platforms
- Strong organizational skills for managing multiple service requests and maintaining detailed records
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with agency staff and vendors
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in electronics, security systems, or a related field is preferred
