PeaceHealth is hiring a full-time Patient Access Representative – Admitting to join its team in Ketchikan, Alaska, serving as a vital first point of contact for patients and families entering the care environment.
About the Role
In this admitting position at PeaceHealth Ketchikan, you will own the front-end registration and admissions workflow for inpatient and outpatient encounters. Your work directly shapes the patient experience and the accuracy of the revenue cycle, making this role both mission-critical and deeply rewarding for someone who thrives in a patient-facing healthcare setting.
What You'll Do
- Register and admit patients by collecting, verifying, and entering accurate demographic and insurance information into the electronic health record system
- Confirm insurance eligibility and benefits in real time and secure required pre-authorizations or referrals before or at the point of service
- Collect applicable patient financial obligations — including co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay balances — in alignment with PeaceHealth financial policies
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and clinical teams to facilitate smooth patient flow and timely admissions
- Review and explain hospital consent forms, patient rights documentation, and admission procedures in a calm, accessible manner
- Identify potential billing or eligibility discrepancies early and coordinate with appropriate staff to resolve them proactively
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records across all patient encounters to support data integrity and downstream clinical and financial operations
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent; coursework or certification in healthcare administration is an advantage
- Hands-on experience in hospital admitting, patient registration, or a healthcare front-office setting strongly preferred
- Familiarity with major payer types, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare registration workflows
- Proficiency with EHR or hospital information systems and standard office software
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a genuine patient-centered service orientation
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment without sacrificing accuracy or professionalism
- Comfort navigating sensitive financial conversations with empathy and discretion
