Services for the Underserved (SUS) is looking for a Program Development Intern to join its team in Chelsea and Clinton, Manhattan — a paid, part-time opportunity spanning 20 weeks for an emerging professional eager to build real-world nonprofit fundraising experience.
About the Role
In this Program Development Internship at Services for the Underserved, you will work alongside the development team to advance food security fundraising goals across New York City. The position runs 8 hours per week for 20 weeks and pays $20.00–$22.00 per hour. You will gain direct exposure to grant research, prospect identification, and pipeline strategy — practical skills that form the foundation of a career in nonprofit development.
What You'll Do
- Conduct targeted research to identify foundations, government agencies, and corporate funders aligned with SUS food security initiatives
- Evaluate new grant opportunities and monitor funding cycles and deadlines
- Help build and maintain grant pipelines and prospect tracking systems
- Compile data and draft supporting materials for grant proposals and reports
- Maintain accurate funder and donor records within organizational databases
- Assist in producing impact summaries and briefings that communicate program outcomes to stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a program in nonprofit management, public policy, social work, communications, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated interest in food security, direct services, or philanthropic fundraising
- Strong written communication and research skills with a sharp eye for detail
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and standard office productivity tools
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and deliver quality work within a part-time schedule
- Enthusiasm for SUS's mission and a commitment to equity for underserved New Yorkers
