Join the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Surtees at University at Buffalo Portal as a Biochemistry Research Scientist in Buffalo, Erie County, advancing our understanding of how cells preserve genome integrity through DNA repair.
About the Role
This full-time Biochemistry Research Scientist position at University at Buffalo Portal centers on the molecular pathways of DNA metabolism governed by the mismatch repair (MMR) complex Msh2-Msh3. Working in Buffalo, Erie County, you will help dissect how this complex coordinates several critical genome-maintenance processes using the budding yeast model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate post-replicative mismatch repair (MMR) and the role of the Msh2-Msh3 complex in correcting DNA errors.
- Examine double-strand DNA break repair (DSBR) mechanisms and their genetic regulation.
- Study triplet repeat (TNR) instability and the dynamics that drive repeat expansion or contraction.
- Design and execute experiments in Saccharomyces cerevisiae as the primary model system.
- Analyze, document, and present experimental findings to support ongoing laboratory projects.
Qualifications
- Strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, or genetics, with hands-on laboratory experience.
- Familiarity with DNA repair pathways such as MMR, DSBR, or repeat-instability research is highly valued.
- Practical experience working with the yeast model system Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
- Careful attention to experimental detail, data integrity, and reproducible record-keeping.
