The University of Washington is hiring a full-time Power Plant Operating Engineer 1 to support the operation and upkeep of campus utility systems in King County, Washington. This is an on-site opportunity to join one of the region's largest and most respected public institutions.
About the Role
As a Power Plant Operating Engineer 1 with University of Washington Facilities, you will help keep the campus running by assisting with the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of power plant and utility equipment. UW Facilities oversees the University's buildings, infrastructure, and land through a workforce of more than 1,100 people across many trades and specialties, and this position plays a hands-on part in that mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the safe and reliable operation of power plant and utility systems on campus
- Monitor equipment performance, gauges, and readings, recording data as required
- Assist senior engineers with routine maintenance, inspections, and adjustments
- Respond to operational changes and report irregularities promptly
- Follow all established safety procedures and applicable regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Relevant experience or training in power plant, boiler, or mechanical equipment operation
- Working knowledge of utility systems and basic maintenance practices
- Ability to interpret instruments, gauges, and operating data accurately
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and dependable attendance
- Willingness to work on-site in King County as a full-time team member
