About the Role
This full-time, on-site position with Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES is part of the Extended School Year Summer Program, a service designed to help eligible students maintain critical skills over the summer months. As an Orientation and Mobility specialist, you will deliver instruction that empowers visually impaired learners to travel safely and independently within school and community settings. The role falls under Support Services for the Visually Impaired and is based in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized Orientation and Mobility instruction to students with visual impairments during the summer program.
- Teach safe, independent travel techniques across indoor and outdoor environments.
- Assess each student's mobility needs and adapt instruction to support their goals.
- Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to reinforce continuity of learning.
- Document student progress in accordance with program guidelines.
Qualifications
- Appropriate certification or credentials in Orientation and Mobility for students who are visually impaired.
- Experience working with school-age learners in an educational or support-services setting is valued.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to fostering student independence and safety.
