About the Role
As a Prep Cook at the Iowa Events Center, you'll be a vital part of the culinary team that keeps one of Des Moines' premier entertainment destinations running smoothly. This hands-on, in-person position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen and takes pride in delivering quality food for guests attending concerts, sporting events, conventions, and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients, recipes, and menu components ahead of and during scheduled events.
- Wash, chop, portion, and store food items according to established standards.
- Support line cooks and culinary leadership during high-volume service periods.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work station at all times.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations consistently.
- Assist with receiving, labeling, and rotating inventory to reduce waste.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in food preparation or a kitchen environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, knife skills, and food safety practices.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a busy, event-driven setting.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as event schedules require.
- A team-oriented attitude and strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
