The Arizona Department of Administration is recruiting a Unit Chief Counsel in Mesa, Maricopa County, to lead litigation within the Arizona Attorney General's Office, Child and Family Protection Division. About the Role
As Unit Chief Counsel, you will direct the Gila/Pinal Protective Services Section litigation unit, overseeing case strategy and supervising attorneys who handle child and family protection matters. Based at 120 West 1st Avenue in Mesa, AZ 85210, this leadership position combines courtroom advocacy with team management in service of vulnerable children and families across Arizona. The posting is graded 01, with a salary range of $120,000–$126,000, and remains open until filled.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal leadership and supervision for the Gila/Pinal Protective Services Section litigation unit.
- Set litigation strategy and oversee the handling of child and family protection cases.
- Mentor, guide, and evaluate the attorneys and staff within the unit.
- Represent the State's interests in protective services proceedings and related court matters.
- Coordinate with the Child and Family Protection Division on priorities, caseload, and outcomes.
Qualifications
- Active license to practice law and admission to the State Bar of Arizona (or eligibility to obtain it).
- Substantial litigation experience, ideally in child welfare, family, dependency, or protective services law.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience supervising or mentoring legal staff.
- Strong courtroom advocacy, legal research, and case-management skills.
- Commitment to public service and the protection of children and families.
