What This Role Involves As the Systems Engineer – Safety & UAS (All Genders) at Stark in Swindon, you will lead safety-focused systems activities that keep complex UAS designs coherent and compliant throughout the engineering lifecycle. The role centres on turning operational and regulatory needs into verifiable system requirements, maintaining clear safety arguments, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams so residual risk remains clearly understood and controlled. You will help define architectures, contribute to verification planning, and support the evidence base needed for safe operation of unmanned platforms. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Capture, analyse and allocate functional and safety requirements for UAS platforms, ensuring traceability from stakeholder need through design and verification Perform hazard identification, risk assessment and safety analysis activities in line with established systems engineering methods Develop and maintain safety cases, hazard logs and supporting documentation that demonstrate that residual risks are acceptable Interface with design, software, flight-test and compliance colleagues to resolve requirement conflicts and integrate safety controls early Plan and review verification and validation approaches that provide objective evidence for safety requirements Contribute to technical reviews, change impact assessments and configuration management of system and safety artefacts Monitor emerging standards and best practices relevant to unmanned aircraft systems safety and recommend practical application within projects Skills & Qualifications Degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering or a closely related technical discipline Demonstrable experience applying systems engineering principles, ideally including safety engineering for aerospace or autonomous systems Working knowledge of safety assessment techniques (hazard analysis, FMEA, fault-tree or similar) and requirements management practices Familiarity with standards or frameworks commonly used for airborne or unmanned systems safety and systems development Strong analytical writing skills for producing clear requirements, trade studies and safety documentation Ability to collaborate across discipline boundaries and communicate technical risk clearly to both specialists and non-specialists Organised approach to managing multiple concurrent workstreams in a full-time engineering environment Working…
