About the Role

As a Surveyor with COLA, you will visit accredited clinical laboratories to perform supportive, education-first assessments. Rather than a punitive audit, each survey is designed to be constructive, cost-conscious, and collaborative—helping labs understand standards and strengthen their day-to-day operations. This Simpsonville, Howard County position involves frequent, extensive travel to laboratory sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out on-site surveys of COLA-accredited laboratories using an educational, approachable approach.
• Evaluate laboratory processes, procedures, and compliance against established quality standards.
• Provide clear, practical guidance that helps facilities improve accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
• Deliver assessments that are thorough yet cost-effective for the laboratories being reviewed.
• Travel extensively to laboratory locations as required by the assignment schedule.
• Document findings and communicate results in a professional, non-threatening manner.

Qualifications

• Background and working knowledge of clinical laboratory operations and quality standards.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively for the role.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to teach and advise in a supportive setting.
• Detail-oriented, professional, and able to work independently in the field.
• Experience with histology technical processes and/or frozen section management is a plus.
