Subtitle Localization Specialist (English to French)

Responsible for translating and localizing subtitles for television shows, films, documentaries, and other media content from English to French. Ensures linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and technical compliance with subtitle standards.

Primary Role & Responsibilities

  • Translate spoken English dialogue into French while preserving tone, context, and cultural nuances.
  • Edit subtitles to align with audio cues and visual pacing, ensuring readability, timing accuracy, and adherence to formatting standards using industry-standard subtitle editing tools.
  • Proofread and review subtitles for grammar, spelling, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to implement feedback.
  • Manage multiple projects, coordinate with project managers and editors, and ensure all deliverables meet platform-specific technical and linguistic guidelines.

Requirements

  • French Proficiency: Native or near-native (C1/C2); strong grasp of regional dialects and cultural references.
  • English Proficiency: Strong comprehension of spoken and written English (C1/C2 level).
  • Experience: 1–2 years in subtitle translation/editing in French; familiarity with AI-driven translation/localization tools.
  • Skills: Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable with media content.
  • Location: living in Ukraine.

Preferred

  • Degree in Translation, Linguistics, or related field (French).
  • Experience with streaming platforms and accessibility standards.
