About the Role As a Strategic Advocacy Staff Attorney, you will provide meaningful legal representation and counsel to vulnerable populations while contributing to systemic advocacy efforts that address root causes of poverty and inequity. This full-time position offers the opportunity to combine direct client service with strategic policy work that extends impact beyond individual cases. What You'll Do Deliver high-quality legal representation to low-income clients on matters affecting housing, family law, benefits, and other civil issues critical to economic stability Conduct legal research, prepare motions and pleadings, and advocate before courts, administrative agencies, and community bodies Collaborate with organizational teams to identify systemic barriers and develop advocacy initiatives that promote lasting change Engage with community partners, clients, and stakeholders to understand emerging legal needs and refine service delivery Maintain detailed case documentation and contribute to organizational data and outcome reporting What We're Looking For Juris Doctor degree and admission to the New York State Bar (or ability to obtain admission) Demonstrated commitment to civil justice, poverty alleviation, and advancing equity Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills Ability to communicate effectively with diverse clients, many of whom may face language or literacy barriers Excellent organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple cases and priorities Collaborative mindset and willingness to work within a mission-driven team environment About Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York We transform lives, strengthen communities, and empower people by providing comprehensive legal services to those facing systemic barriers.
