About the Role As a Senior Data Engineer based in Serbia, you will lead the design, construction, and upkeep of resilient data pipelines that fuel analytics and business intelligence. Working across both batch and streaming patterns, you'll apply PySpark, SQL, and contemporary data engineering frameworks to deliver dependable, high-performance solutions on Google Cloud. Key Responsibilities Own the end-to-end data architecture for ingestion, storage, transformation, and analytics on GCP, centered on BigQuery and Cloud Composer. Craft data modeling standards for structured and semi-structured insurance data spanning Policy, Claims, and Billing domains. Partner with Business Analysts to convert Guidewire functional requirements into conceptual and logical models. Define physical schemas, transformation strategies, and data lineage alongside Data Modelers and Engineers. Build SQL-based ELT ingestion layers (staging, raw, curated) sourced from Guidewire systems. Establish governance, metadata management, and data quality practices that support compliance and transparency. Tune BigQuery through partitioning, clustering, query optimization, and storage tiering. Set naming conventions, IAM/RLS security models, and warehouse access controls. Mentor the Data Engineering Lead, Data Modeler, and engineers while aligning solutions with cloud best practices for scale and cost efficiency. Coordinate with security and infrastructure teams to uphold data privacy regulations. Qualifications 10+ years in data architecture and design, including 6+ years hands-on with GCP. Deep expertise in BigQuery warehouse design and performance tuning. Strong command of Cloud Composer (Airflow) and orchestration workflows. Solid grasp of insurance data structures, ideally Guidewire PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, and ClaimsCenter. Proven experience building enterprise ELT frameworks and layered architectures (staging → raw → curated → analytics). Advanced SQL and analytical schema design skills (star and snowflake models). Familiarity with data governance, cataloging, and metadata management. Ability to guide technical teams and influence both functional and technical stakeholders.
