Shelter Advocate

Missions Programs is hiring a full-time, on-call Shelter Advocate to support survivors of domestic violence at the Home Free shelter in Medicine Lake, Hennepin County. If you want meaningful, hands-on work helping women and children rebuild their lives in a safe environment, this role is for you.

About the Role

As a Shelter Advocate with Missions Programs, you will serve as relief and on-call staff at Home Free, a 30-bed emergency shelter in Medicine Lake, Hennepin County. The shelter offers immediate protection, advocacy, and resources to women-identifying individuals and their children who have left their homes to escape domestic abuse. Your presence helps ensure that every resident feels safe, heard, and supported from the moment they arrive.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide crisis support, advocacy, and a welcoming presence to residents fleeing domestic violence.
• Help families access immediate safety, information, and on-site resources.
• Maintain a secure, calm, and respectful shelter environment for women and children.
• Respond to resident needs during assigned on-call and relief shifts, including overnight and weekend coverage as scheduled.
• Communicate effectively with team members to support continuity of care.

• Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay composed and respond thoughtfully in crisis situations.
• Flexibility to work on-call and relief hours at the Medicine Lake location.
