About the Role As a Senior Software Engineer II on the App O11y team at Honeycomb.io, you'll own the foundational workflows customers depend on — querying, metrics, anomaly detection, and high-level analysis — that let teams stream their telemetry into Honeycomb and dig into problems fast. This is a senior, hands-on position with rotating tech-lead responsibilities, so every engineer gets room to lead and grow. Key Responsibilities Architect and ship backend services and APIs in Go, prioritizing readability, long-term maintainability, and backward compatibility while weighing cost, scale, and risk. Build full-stack product features, contributing React/TypeScript on the frontend and Go on the backend to deliver real customer value. Set technical direction by defining patterns and operational standards, then planning and leading complex, multi-team projects with external dependencies. Partner within a product triad alongside design and product, iterating quickly on user feedback and helping shape quarterly and technical roadmaps. Take part in on-call rotations, owning your software in production and balancing new feature work against reliability needs. Mentor fellow engineers, share knowledge generously, and communicate clearly in writing and in person to multiply the team's impact. Qualifications Substantial experience designing and maintaining backend systems and APIs in Go (or comparable languages), with well-formed views on API design, error handling, and developer experience. Professional frontend experience with React and TypeScript, contributing across the full development lifecycle while keeping backend as your core strength. A track record of leading complex projects that cross multiple teams or systems, breaking down work and shipping incrementally. Strong ownership and autonomy — driving projects from planning through deployment, tackling tech debt, and debugging deep across the stack.
