Join Institute for Justice's Strategic Research team as a Senior Research Analyst in Seven Corners, Fairfax County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to lead rigorous, evidence-based research initiatives that inform high-stakes advocacy, legal strategy, and public discourse on individual rights and government accountability.

About the Role

As a Senior Research Analyst, you'll design and execute original research projects that uncover government practices affecting personal liberty and economic freedom. Your work will inform journalists, policymakers, litigators, and civil society organizations as they pursue systemic reform. You'll combine quantitative analysis, qualitative investigation, and rigorous methodology to produce findings that stand up to scrutiny and drive real-world change.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the full research lifecycle—from hypothesis development and data collection through analysis and publication
  • Analyze government records, regulatory data, and empirical evidence to illuminate patterns of overreach or abuse
  • Prepare comprehensive research reports, data visualizations, and fact sheets for diverse audiences
  • Collaborate with legal teams, communications staff, and external partners to ensure research supports advocacy goals
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the strategic direction of the research program
  • Communicate findings through public presentations, media engagement, and academic forums

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative research methods, statistical analysis, and data visualization
  • Strong writing ability and facility with complex, policy-relevant research communication
  • Intellectual curiosity about government policy and individual rights issues
  • Ability to work independently and lead research teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with data management tools and statistical software (R, Python, Stata, or similar)
  • Comfort navigating ambiguous challenges and adapting research approaches as new evidence emerges
  • Background in economics, political science, public policy, sociology, or related field preferred
