Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Engineer Team Lead to spearhead a long-term client engagement. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge in distributed data processing tools, with specific expertise in Kafka, Spark, and Hadoop. Experience with BigQuery is highly desirable. This role demands proven leadership capabilities, including the ability to mentor engineers, drive project success, and communicate technical solutions effectively to stakeholders.

As a key leader in the engineering function, you will take ownership of architectural decisions, data pipeline optimizations, and guide cross-functional collaboration across teams in a dynamic, fully remote environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of data engineers and contribute hands-on to the design and development of scalable data pipelines.
  • Architect, implement, and optimize large-scale streaming and batch data solutions using Kafka, Spark, and Hadoop.
  • Oversee the deployment and monitoring of data infrastructure for performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering teams to define data needs and drive data strategy.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and contribute to team culture, process, and quality standards.
  • Ensure best practices for data governance, security, and compliance.
  • Advocate for and implement improvements in data engineering standards and tooling.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering, including recent leadership or team lead roles.
  • Expertise in Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, and Hadoop ecosystems.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms; BigQuery experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in leading technical teams and delivering complex data solutions at scale.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and performance tuning skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience managing team workflows and stakeholder expectations.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
