Security Officer

MoMA PS1 is hiring a full-time Security Officer in Astoria, Queens, to help safeguard one of New York's most celebrated contemporary art institutions and the people, artworks, and ideas it brings together every day.

About the Role

As a Security Officer at MoMA PS1 in Astoria, Queens, you will serve as a visible, welcoming presence across our galleries, public spaces, and grounds. This on-site role blends attentive guest service with vigilant protection of the museum's collections, exhibitions, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor galleries, entrances, and shared areas to ensure the safety of guests, employees, and artworks
• Greet visitors warmly, answer questions, and provide clear directions throughout the museum
• Watch for and respond to security concerns, incidents, and emergencies following established protocols
• Conduct routine patrols and observation to protect exhibitions and museum property
• Document and report incidents, hazards, or unusual activity accurately and promptly
• Coordinate with security colleagues and other museum departments to maintain a secure, comfortable environment

Qualifications

• Reliable, professional demeanor with strong attention to detail and situational awareness
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging a diverse public
• Ability to remain composed and act decisively during emergencies
• Comfortable standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods on-site in Astoria, Queens
• Availability to work a full-time schedule, including weekends or holidays as needed
• A valid security guard license, where required, is an asset
