About the Role
As a Saw Filer at Interfor's Thomaston mill, you will be central to the reliability and accuracy of sawing equipment that drives daily production. This position carries real accountability: the condition of the saws you service directly affects mill throughput, product quality, and team safety. Starting pay is $25.71 per hour, with a clearly defined progression path reaching $35.11 per hour as skills and tenure develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, sharpen, tension, and set circular saws and band saws to manufacturer and operational specifications
- Identify wear patterns, cracks, and defects that could compromise cutting accuracy or create safety hazards
- Maintain filing room equipment and tooling in proper working order
- Collaborate with mill production staff to minimize downtime during saw changes and equipment servicing
- Follow and actively promote all safety protocols in the filing room and on the mill floor
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience or formal training in saw filing, including knowledge of saw geometry and tensioning techniques
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail when working with precision tools and gauges
- Commitment to workplace safety and the ability to follow established procedures in an industrial setting
- Self-motivated work ethic with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet production timelines
- Prior experience in a sawmill or wood-products manufacturing environment is an asset
