The State of Florida is hiring a full-time Risk Management Program Specialist to join the Division of Risk Management, Bureau of State Liability, based in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida.
About the Role
This Career Service position sits within the Department of Financial Services and plays a central role in administering Florida's state liability programs. The specialist analyzes risk exposures, supports claims management activities, and helps protect state assets and taxpayer interests through sound risk management practices. The annual salary range for this position is $52,000–$55,000, with a posting close date of July 8, 2026.
What You'll Do
- Administer and monitor state liability risk management programs in accordance with Florida statutes and agency guidelines
- Evaluate liability claims, gather documentation, and coordinate with legal counsel and relevant state agencies throughout the claims lifecycle
- Conduct risk assessments to identify exposures and recommend mitigation strategies across state operations
- Prepare detailed reports, data analyses, and program summaries for bureau leadership and stakeholders
- Collaborate with state agencies to ensure compliance with risk management policies and procedures
- Review and interpret insurance coverage, contracts, and indemnification language as it relates to state liability
- Maintain accurate program records and databases in support of audit and reporting requirements
What We're Looking For
- A bachelor's degree in risk management, insurance, finance, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field — or equivalent professional experience
- Working knowledge of risk management principles, liability concepts, and insurance fundamentals
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and coordinating across agencies
- Proficiency with standard office and data management software
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a regulated environment
- Familiarity with Florida state government operations or public sector risk management is a plus
