The City of Rockingham is hiring a full-time Residential Design Assistant to join its Planning & Development team — a hands-on opportunity to shape how one of the region's fastest-growing communities grows and looks.
About the Role
As a Residential Design Assistant, you will support the day-to-day functions of the Planning & Development division, helping to evaluate residential projects and ensure they align with local design standards, zoning requirements, and environmental guidelines. This is a permanent, full-time position based in Rockingham and is not a remote role.
What You'll Do
- Review residential development applications for compliance with local planning policies and design standards
- Assist senior planners in preparing written assessments, recommendations, and approval documentation
- Coordinate with applicants, builders, and property owners to resolve design and compliance queries
- Maintain accurate records within planning and development management systems
- Support the team in processing building and subdivision referrals within required timeframes
- Contribute to continuous improvement in residential design assessment processes
What We're Looking For
- Experience or formal study in urban planning, architecture, built environment, or a related field
- Working knowledge of residential design standards and planning legislation
- Strong written communication skills — able to draft clear, concise assessment reports
- High attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical drawings and site plans
- Effective time management and the ability to handle multiple applications simultaneously
- A collaborative approach and commitment to delivering quality public service
