About the Role As a Research Associate 1 at Natera, you'll take on independent responsibility for critical laboratory functions within our oncology research division. You'll work directly with biological samples that matter to real patients, performing precise technical work that combines scientific rigor with a passion for discovery. This position requires an onsite presence in our San Carlos facility and offers shift flexibility, including early morning, afternoon, and evening schedules with a 30-minute break. This is initially a six-month contract position with the possibility of extension or permanent conversion based on performance and organizational needs. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Process biological specimens according to established protocols, with meticulous attention to prevent sample degradation and cross-contamination Isolate blood plasma manually and prepare tissue samples—including both fresh tissue and fixed specimens preserved in formalin Execute nucleic acid isolation and purification techniques across various sample matrices Conduct library construction and DNA sequencing on instruments including iSeq, MiSeq i100, NovaSeq6000, and NovaSeqX platforms Document and track all samples using LIMS software and maintain accurate database records Perform routine equipment upkeep, preventive servicing, and equipment troubleshooting; report issues through proper channels Monitor and manage laboratory consumables, reagents, and specimen inventory Contribute to developing and refining Standard Operating Procedures in partnership with senior research staff Maintain thorough, organized laboratory documentation and experimental records Uphold all environmental, health, safety, and Good Laboratory Practice standards Ensure data accuracy, reproducibility, and quality in all experimental outputs Take full ownership of assigned tasks and proactively adapt to changing research priorities Manage protected health information (PHI) in paper and digital formats as part of standard duties Requirements Bachelor's degree in biology, life sciences, or a related biological discipline One to four years of direct hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology Demonstrated proficiency with core molecular techniques: precise pipetting, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), quantitative PCR (qPCR), and nucleic acid extraction Practical experience with NGS library…
