Role Overview As a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Surgery Clinic at Vumc, you'll deliver direct patient care to pre- and post-operative cardiac surgery patients. You'll collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Your role bridges clinical expertise with compassionate care, managing complex patients during one of the most critical periods of their treatment journey. Your Responsibilities Assess and monitor cardiac surgery patients throughout pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases Administer medications, manage invasive lines and monitoring equipment, and respond to patient needs in real time Collaborate with the surgical team to implement care plans and adjust interventions based on patient status Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses to treatment in accordance with clinical standards Educate patients and families about surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge care instructions Maintain a safe, sterile clinical environment and follow infection control and safety protocols Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to coordinate seamless patient care Requirements Current RN licensure in Tennessee Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills in high-acuity settings Proficiency with cardiac monitoring systems and electronic health records Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment and manage multiple priorities Excellent communication and collaboration skills Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development About Vumc Vumc is a leading medical center recognized for clinical excellence in cardiovascular care, research, and education.
