Jacobs is growing its Transmission & Distribution practice across North America and is seeking a Principal Overhead Transmission Line Engineer to join its Energy & Power Group in the Illinois Medical District, Chicago.
About the Role
The way electricity is generated and delivered is shifting fast, driven by the push toward greater safety, dependability, and long-term sustainability. As a Principal Overhead Transmission Line Engineer at Jacobs, you will help utility clients navigate decarbonization and the modernization of aging grid infrastructure. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Chicago's Illinois Medical District.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering and design of overhead transmission line projects from concept through delivery.
- Provide senior technical direction on T&D assignments within the Energy & Power Group.
- Support utility clients as they pursue decarbonization goals and grid reliability upgrades.
- Guide and mentor engineering staff while upholding quality and safety standards.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, code-compliant solutions.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in overhead transmission line engineering at a principal or senior level.
- Strong background in electric utility transmission and distribution systems.
- Familiarity with the technical and regulatory demands of modernizing grid infrastructure.
- Proven ability to lead projects and mentor fellow engineers.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills for working with clients and project teams.
