Payroll Manager

AKS Engineering & Forestry is hiring a full-time Payroll Manager to join their growing team in Tualatin, Washington County — a multidisciplinary firm working across land development, energy, and infrastructure markets throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

About the Role

As Payroll Manager at AKS Engineering & Forestry, you will own the end-to-end payroll function for a technically skilled, expanding workforce. You'll partner closely with HR and Finance to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, compliance obligations are met, and payroll operations scale alongside the firm's continued growth.

What You'll Do

• Manage and process full-cycle payroll for all employees across pay periods, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Maintain compliance with federal, Oregon state, and Washington County payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and reporting requirements
• Administer deductions, garnishments, direct deposits, and off-cycle adjustments
• Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare journal entries in coordination with the accounting team
• Lead year-end payroll close, including W-2 preparation and distribution
• Evaluate and optimize payroll systems and workflows to support organizational growth
• Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll questions, resolving discrepancies promptly
• Generate payroll reports and analytics for leadership and HR
• Coordinate with project managers and HR on overtime, bonuses, and classification changes specific to engineering and professional-services environments

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience managing payroll operations, ideally within a professional-services, engineering, or technical firm
• Strong working knowledge of federal and Oregon payroll tax law, multi-state compliance, and prevailing-wage requirements
• Proficiency with payroll software platforms and HRIS systems
• High attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive, confidential data with discretion
• Collaborative, hands-on work style that fits a team-oriented culture
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred
