This is your opportunity to cover breaking news and important community stories for a major broadcast news operation serving the Birmingham market and beyond. About the Role As a News Reporter and Multimedia Journalist with Gray Media, you'll be on the front lines of local news coverage. This role combines traditional reporting with modern multimedia production — you'll shoot video, conduct interviews, write compelling copy, edit stories, and manage digital presence, all while meeting tight broadcast deadlines. You'll work as part of a dedicated news team committed to delivering accurate, impactful journalism to our community. What You'll Do Gather, research, and report news stories across broadcast and digital platforms Conduct interviews with news sources and community members Shoot, edit, and independently produce video stories Write and deliver news copy for television broadcast Cover assigned beats, breaking news, and spot news assignments Manage social media accounts and create digital content Work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on news coverage needs Collaborate with photojournalists, producers, assignment editors, and anchors to deliver comprehensive coverage What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or related field (or equivalent professional news experience) Demonstrated track record as a news reporter or multimedia journalist Proficiency in video production, editing, and multimedia storytelling techniques Strong writing, interviewing, and on-camera communication skills Portfolio or reel demonstrating published news stories and multimedia work Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent deadlines Flexibility and willingness to cover breaking news and work non-traditional hours Familiarity with broadcast news production software and equipment About Gray Media Gray Media is America's largest owner of top-rated local television stations and digital assets.
