Medical Malpractice Associate Attorney

Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman LLP is seeking a driven Medical Malpractice Associate Attorney to join our growing litigation team in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity to build a defense-side career with one of the country's leading civil litigation firms.

About the Role

Our Los Angeles office is expanding its medical malpractice litigation group, and we are inviting associate-level applicants with one to five years of relevant experience to apply. As a Medical Malpractice Associate Attorney, you will handle defense matters on behalf of healthcare providers and the carriers that insure them, contributing to a practice known for protecting clients in high-stakes disputes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and litigate medical malpractice defense cases from intake through resolution
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and related legal documents
• Take and defend depositions and prepare matters for hearing and trial
• Conduct legal research and develop sound defense strategies for healthcare and insurance clients
• Coordinate closely with partners, experts, and clients throughout each engagement

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law in the State of California — this requirement is firm, with no exceptions
• One to five years of litigation experience, ideally including medical malpractice or related civil defense work
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to manage a caseload independently while collaborating within a team
• Commitment to delivering responsive, client-focused representation
