Junior Summer Camp Counselor

About the Role

The Junior Summer Camp Counselor works closely under the direction of a designated supervisor and alongside the lead Summer Camp Counselor to care for an assigned group of campers aged 5 to 12. Everything you do will reflect the mission, values, and guiding goals of YMCA Virginia Peninsulas, with a strong focus on keeping every child engaged, healthy, and safe throughout the camp day.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the lead Summer Camp Counselor in guiding and supervising a group of children ages 5–12.
• Help safeguard the health, safety, and overall well-being of every camper in your group.
• Encourage positive participation in daily camp activities and group experiences.
• Carry out duties in a way that upholds the established policies, mission, and purpose of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas.

Qualifications

• A genuine enthusiasm for working with and mentoring elementary and middle school–aged children.
• Willingness to follow the guidance of a supervisor and collaborate as part of a camp team.
• A dependable, safety-minded approach to supervising groups of young campers.
• Availability for full-time, on-site work in West Point, King William County during the summer camp season.
