Key Responsibilities Perform diagnostic interpretation and sign-out of surgical specimens across all anatomic sites Lead daily surgical pathology operations and direct specimen processing workflows Provide consultative expertise to surgeons, oncologists, and clinical colleagues on diagnostic findings Participate in quality assurance, laboratory accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives Teach and mentor resident physicians and pathology fellows in surgical pathology Maintain current knowledge of evolving diagnostic standards and methodologies in anatomic pathology Contribute to departmental scholarship and academic activities as appropriate to rank What You Bring MD or DO degree with completion of an accredited residency program in pathology Anatomic pathology board certification or board-eligible status Demonstrated clinical expertise and experience in surgical pathology sign-out and case interpretation Commitment to teaching, mentoring, and advancing medical education in pathology Strong collaborative and communication skills with surgical, oncology, and clinical teams Current Alabama medical license or active eligibility to obtain licensure Working at The University of Alabama at Birmingham Portal UAB is a leading academic medical center and research institution serving diverse patient populations with state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities.
