The City of Redmond is hiring a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Graduate Program Intern to support the Public Works department in Redmond, King County. This full-time, on-site internship offers graduate students hands-on experience applying spatial data and mapping technology to real municipal infrastructure projects.

About the Role

As a GIS Graduate Program Intern with the City of Redmond, you will contribute to the day-to-day geospatial work that keeps a fast-growing community of more than 80,000 residents running smoothly. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Public Works staff with collecting, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial data.
  • Build, update, and quality-check maps, layers, and spatial datasets.
  • Support GIS-driven projects that inform infrastructure planning and public service delivery.
  • Help document workflows and prepare visualizations for internal and community use.
  • Collaborate across teams while upholding the city's commitment to inclusive, accountable public service.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a graduate-level program, ideally in GIS, geography, planning, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with geographic information systems and spatial data concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail and an analytical, problem-solving mindset.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • A genuine interest in public service and supporting a diverse local community.
