Google is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer III, Google Cloud, Applied AI to join its Cloud organization at its Tarrytown, Travis County office — a senior individual-contributor role where deep technical expertise meets direct customer impact.
About the Role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer on the Google Cloud Applied AI team, you sit at the intersection of enterprise engineering and cutting-edge AI. You embed with strategic customers to architect, build, and operationalize AI-powered solutions on Google Cloud — translating ambitious business goals into working production systems. This is a full-time, on-site position in Tarrytown, Travis County.
What You'll Do
- Partner directly with enterprise clients to assess their AI/ML challenges and design technically sound, production-ready solutions on Google Cloud infrastructure
- Lead hands-on implementation of Applied AI capabilities — including generative AI, large language models, and data pipelines — integrated with customer environments
- Build reference architectures, proof-of-concept prototypes, and custom tooling that accelerates customer adoption of Google Cloud AI products
- Serve as a technical escalation point, diagnosing complex integration issues and driving them to resolution alongside product and engineering teams
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing domain knowledge and raising the team's collective technical depth
- Feed real-world customer insights back to Google Cloud product teams to sharpen the roadmap
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Mid-to-senior engineering experience, including a track record of independently driving complex technical projects end-to-end
- Proficiency in one or more languages commonly used in cloud and AI workloads, such as Python, Java, or Go
- Working knowledge of machine learning concepts, model deployment patterns, and AI/ML frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both engineering and business audiences
- Experience working in or alongside customer-facing roles — consulting, solutions engineering, or forward deployment — is a strong plus
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services (Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Run, etc.) preferred
