Faculty Scientist

The Houston Methodist Research Institute is seeking an accomplished Faculty Scientist to join its RNA Therapeutics Program in the Old Sixth Ward, Houston. This full-time, on-site faculty appointment offers an exceptional opportunity to advance discovery science and move breakthroughs from the laboratory toward the clinic.

About the Role

As a Faculty Scientist at Houston Methodist, you will be appointed at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor within our RNA Therapeutics Program, specializing in RNA Biology or RNA Chemistry. Working in a deeply translational environment, you will pursue fundamental scientific questions while helping convert those discoveries into novel, transformative therapies for patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and lead an independent, externally funded research program in RNA Biology or RNA Chemistry.
• Drive original investigations that generate foundational insights into RNA-based science.
• Translate laboratory findings toward applied RNA therapeutics with real clinical potential.
• Pursue and sustain competitive grant support, including federal and state funding sources.
• Collaborate across disciplines with faculty, clinicians, and trainees throughout the institute.
• Mentor students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior researchers within the program.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) with demonstrated expertise in RNA Biology or RNA Chemistry.
• A track record of impactful, translational research appropriate for an Assistant or Associate Professor appointment.
• Evidence of, or strong potential for, securing extramural research funding.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary, team-based science in a fast-paced academic medical setting.
