About the Role As the Transition Center ESY Teacher at Kilmer Center, you will design and deliver an Extended School Year (ESY) curriculum focused on communication, life, and social skills development. You will work directly with learners ranging from age 5 to 22 who have intellectual disabilities, cognitive impairments, and/or autism, including students who may display significantly challenging behaviors. This is an on-site role based in the United States with Fairfax County Public Schools. Key Responsibilities Plan and carry out an individualized Extended School Year program emphasizing communication, daily living, and social skill building. Provide instruction tailored to students aged 5–22 with intellectual disability, cognitive impairment, and/or autism. Develop and apply instructional adaptations that meet each student's unique learning needs. Offer personal assistance with everyday activities and classroom tasks. Support and respond appropriately to students who exhibit significantly challenging behaviors. Qualifications Background in special education and experience teaching students with intellectual, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. Familiarity with autism, behavioral support strategies, and adaptive instructional methods. Patience, compassion, and a commitment to fostering independence in life and social skills. Ability to work hands-on with students requiring personal assistance throughout the school day.
