Oshkosh Corporation
Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation company, is hiring a full-time Electrical Engineer – Project at its facility in Neenah, Winnebago County, Wisconsin — where precision engineering has protected lives and communities since 1913.
About the Role
As an Electrical Engineer – Project at Pierce Manufacturing, you'll take ownership of the electrical systems that go into some of the world's most demanding emergency response vehicles — pumpers, aerials, tankers, and other highly customized fire apparatus. You'll work across the full project lifecycle, from initial specification through design, build, and customer delivery, ensuring every circuit, control system, and wiring harness meets the rigorous standards first responders depend on.
What You'll Do
- Lead electrical engineering efforts on custom fire apparatus projects, managing scope, schedule, and technical deliverables from kickoff to commissioning
- Design and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system architectures using industry-standard CAD tools
- Select components and build bills of materials that balance performance, reliability, and cost
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, production teams, and sales to translate customer requirements into manufacturable electrical designs
- Conduct design reviews, prototype testing, and root-cause analysis to resolve issues before and after vehicles reach the floor
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, including NFPA apparatus specifications and relevant electrical codes
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying design efficiencies and contributing to engineering documentation and standards
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for vehicles, heavy equipment, or complex electromechanical products
- Proficiency with electrical schematic and wiring design software
- Strong project management skills — ability to juggle multiple concurrent projects and communicate status clearly across teams
- Solid understanding of low-voltage vehicle electrical systems, 12/24V DC architectures, and associated protection schemes
- Familiarity with NFPA 1901 or similar apparatus standards is a plus
- Attention to detail and a commitment to building equipment that performs without fail in life-safety applications
