Design Studies Engineer – Technical Director

WSP USA is hiring a Design Studies Engineer - Technical Director to lead electrical studies work from our Boise, Idaho office, joining a team that shapes the backbone of modern power and utility infrastructure.

About the Role

As a Design Studies Engineer - Technical Director with WSP USA in Boise, Ada County, you will provide senior technical leadership across our Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) practice. This full-time, on-site position centers on an electrical studies emphasis, giving you the opportunity to guide complex engineering analysis and mentor the teams delivering it. While the role is based in Boise, applicants open to relocation or alternative arrangements in Clarkston, WA; Portland, OR; San Diego, CA; Denver, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; or Fort Worth, TX may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct electrical studies engagements within the Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) group.
• Serve as a technical authority on design studies, ensuring methodology, accuracy, and quality across deliverables.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to translate technical findings into practical engineering solutions.
• Support and develop engineering staff, sharing expertise in electrical analysis and protection systems.
• Contribute to project planning, scope definition, and the successful execution of utility and power-sector work.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in electrical studies engineering, ideally including SCADA and protection applications.
• The technical depth and leadership ability expected of a Technical Director.
• A track record of guiding design studies and mentoring engineering colleagues.
• Willingness to work full-time from the Boise, Idaho office, with potential consideration for the listed alternate locations.
