This full-time, hybrid position—located in Southern California with on-site attendance one to two days per week—sits within our Shared Services Accounting team and directly supports our fast-growing consumer goods operation. You'll lead month-end close activities, ensure accurate inventory reporting across systems, and partner with Supply Chain and Operations to drive cost transparency and scalable financial controls. About the Role The Cost Accountant bridges inventory management, cost accounting, and general ledger close within a rapidly expanding organization. You'll reconcile ERP, third-party logistics, and GL data; track and allocate landed costs and freight; analyze purchase price variances; and reserve for inventory obsolescence. Working cross-functionally with Operations and Supply Chain, you'll validate inventory positions and support all close cycles. A key focus is identifying automation opportunities—using AI and tools to eliminate manual work while strengthening accuracy and close timeliness. Key Responsibilities Perform and own monthly inventory reconciliations connecting your ERP system (NetSuite preferred), third-party logistics data, and general ledger accounts Track landed costs, freight allocations, duties, and inbound logistics expenses; ensure proper capitalization to inventory Monitor and analyze purchase price variances, standard cost accuracy, and bill of materials costing; flag trends and discrepancies Investigate and record inventory adjustments, provisions for obsolete or slow-moving items, and cycle count variance resolution Prepare and review all month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close schedules, journal entries, and related reconciliations for inventory and cost of goods sold accounts Coordinate physical inventory and cycle count processes; conduct root cause analysis on material variances Produce cost variance reports, trend analyses, and ad hoc reporting for Accounting leadership, Operations, and Finance stakeholders Apply AI-assisted tools and automation to routine close tasks to drive team efficiency Maintain complete, organized documentation of close schedules and supporting analysis for audit readiness and compliance reviews What We're Looking For Demonstrated experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, or accounting close within manufacturing or consumer goods companies Working knowledge of ERP platforms (NetSuite strongly preferred) and 3PL reporting systems; comfort with data validation and reconciliation Solid technical…
