Koniag Energy and Water is hiring a full-time Automation & Controls Technician based in Wasilla, Matanuska-Susitna, Alaska to deliver hands-on automation and commissioning support across TecPro and its affiliated companies throughout the state.

As an Automation & Controls Technician with Koniag Energy and Water, you'll work in the field to bring industrial control systems online, keep them running reliably, and solve complex technical problems as they arise. This role sits at the intersection of electrical systems, programmable controls, and process automation — making it ideal for a technician who thrives on varied, mission-critical work in an Alaskan operating environment.

What You'll Do

  • Perform field commissioning and startup of control systems at client and company sites across Alaska
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in automated systems, PLCs, instrumentation, and associated electrical equipment
  • Develop, modify, and validate control logic and HMI configurations to meet project specifications
  • Calibrate instruments and verify sensor accuracy during commissioning and ongoing operations
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control drawings to guide installation and troubleshooting work
  • Collaborate with project engineers and site personnel to ensure systems meet design intent and safety standards
  • Document as-built conditions, commissioning results, and field changes accurately and thoroughly
  • Support continuous improvement efforts for control system reliability and process efficiency

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with industrial control systems, including PLC programming and configuration
  • Proficiency troubleshooting SCADA systems, HMI platforms, and field instrumentation
  • Ability to read and work from electrical schematics, loop drawings, and process diagrams
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with a systematic approach to diagnostics
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, PROFIBUS)
  • Associate degree or technical certification in industrial automation, electrical technology, or a related discipline — or equivalent field experience
  • Willingness to travel to job sites within Alaska as project schedules require
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in remote or demanding environments
