Associate Director, Engineering

Merck is expanding its Biologics External Manufacturing organization and seeking an experienced Associate Director, Engineering to serve as the primary technical bridge between Merck and its external manufacturing partners in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County.

About the Role

As Associate Director, Engineering within Biologics External Manufacturing Technology (ExM), you will act as the central technical leadership point of contact connecting Merck with its External Partners. Driven by sustained business growth and ongoing investment, this full-time, on-site position in Annapolis is responsible for shaping, directing, and delivering the technical agenda that supports reliable biologics production across our external manufacturing network.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead engineering and technical interface between Merck and its External Manufacturing Partners.
• Develop, guide, and carry out technical strategies and initiatives within the Biologics External Manufacturing organization.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership to ensure manufacturing processes meet quality, compliance, and performance expectations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve engineering challenges and strengthen partnership outcomes.
• Support continuous improvement across external biologics manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated engineering expertise within biologics or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
• Proven ability to lead technical programs and influence external manufacturing partners.
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills suited to a partner-facing role.
• Capability to create and execute technical strategy while managing complex stakeholder relationships.
• Willingness to work full-time on-site in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County.
