About the Role
As a Temporary Urban Forestry Field Technician at Penn, you'll contribute directly to the health and stewardship of trees on campus and in the broader urban landscape. This part-time fieldwork position involves collaboration with experienced arborists and environmental professionals to deliver essential tree care and forest management services.
What You'll Do
- Perform field inspections and assessments of tree health, structure, and maintenance requirements
- Assist with tree planting, pruning, and removal operations under professional supervision
- Maintain accurate records and collect data from fieldwork to support forest management decisions
- Operate hand tools and small power equipment according to established safety standards
- Support tree health monitoring and inventory programs
- Follow all OSHA and workplace safety protocols in outdoor environments
- Contribute to University sustainability and environmental stewardship initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Physical capability for regular outdoor fieldwork, including standing, walking, and moderate lifting
- Detail-oriented approach to record-keeping and field data collection
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to following established safety procedures
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when needed
- Familiarity with basic hand and power tools used in forestry
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
- Passion for urban forestry, arboriculture, or environmental conservation
