The Orchard is seeking a full-time Editor, Associate Director — Metal Injection to lead editorial strategy and content operations for Metal Injection, one of heavy music's most recognized digital media destinations, based in New York City, New York.
About the Role
In this senior editorial position, you will serve as the primary content leader for Metal Injection, shaping its voice, vision, and day-to-day publishing output. Reporting within The Orchard's broader creative and label services organization, you will bridge deep genre expertise with a data-informed editorial approach to grow audience engagement across the metal and hard rock landscape.
What You'll Do
- Own the editorial direction for Metal Injection, setting content priorities, tone, and publishing standards
- Commission, assign, edit, and publish articles, reviews, interviews, and multimedia features covering the metal genre
- Manage and mentor a team of editors, writers, and freelance contributors
- Build and maintain a forward-looking content calendar aligned with album cycles, tours, and cultural moments in heavy music
- Collaborate with label partners, publicists, and artists to secure exclusive content and access opportunities
- Work cross-functionally with marketing, social, and data teams to amplify content reach and performance
- Track and analyze content metrics, using audience insights to refine editorial strategy and improve engagement
- Uphold editorial integrity while ensuring alignment with The Orchard's broader artist-focused mission
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of editorial experience at a music publication, entertainment media outlet, or comparable digital property
- Genuine, demonstrable expertise in metal and hard rock music — genre knowledge is essential, not optional
- Proven experience leading and developing editorial teams in a fast-paced digital environment
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with a sharp editorial eye for voice, accuracy, and storytelling
- Hands-on experience with CMS platforms and digital publishing workflows
- Comfort working with content analytics tools and translating data into editorial decisions
- Strong relationships within the metal music industry — labels, management, publicists, and artists
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple content streams simultaneously
