University Hospital is seeking a full-time HR Business Partner to join its Human Resources team in Roseville, Essex County — a trusted regional health system committed to delivering exceptional patient care and fostering a workplace where staff can thrive.
About the Role
As an HR Business Partner at University Hospital, you will serve as a dedicated resource and strategic advisor to assigned departments, providing hands-on guidance across core human resources functions. You will build trusted relationships with leaders and staff alike, translating HR policy into practical day-to-day support that helps the organization operate effectively and equitably.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the primary HR contact for assigned departments, advising managers and employees on a broad range of workforce matters
- Handle employee and labor relations issues including investigations, disciplinary processes, grievances, and conflict resolution in alignment with applicable agreements and policies
- Guide managers through performance management cycles, coaching them on documentation, improvement plans, and corrective action
- Support compensation processes by interpreting pay structures, assisting with reclassification requests, and ensuring internal equity within assigned client groups
- Educate employees and supervisors on benefits offerings, open enrollment, and leave-of-absence procedures
- Partner with talent acquisition to support workforce planning, position management, and onboarding for new hires
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law to ensure compliant HR practices across the organization
- Analyze HR data and trends to identify issues proactively and recommend solutions that support department goals
- Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence on policy updates, training initiatives, and system-wide programs
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in an HR generalist or HR Business Partner capacity, ideally within a healthcare, hospital, or similarly complex unionized environment
- Solid working knowledge of labor and employee relations, including familiarity with collective bargaining agreements
- Proficiency in benefits administration and compensation fundamentals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build rapport across all levels of an organization
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality under pressure
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus
- Experience with HRIS platforms and standard HR reporting tools
