GE Aerospace
GE Aerospace is hiring a Senior Engineering Design Manager to join its team in Rockledge, Brevard County, Florida — a full-time, on-site leadership role at the forefront of next-generation high-speed propulsion development.
About the Role
This position carries a dual mandate: hands-on technical contribution and direct people leadership. The Senior Engineering Design Manager will own the technical delivery of hypersonic flight and ground prototype systems and their subsystems, with the overarching mission of advancing high-speed propulsion technology from early development through Technology Readiness Levels 6 and 7. You will build and guide cross-functional design teams, serving as both a working engineer and an experienced manager who raises the capability of everyone around them.
What You'll Do
- Lead design teams responsible for hypersonic flight hardware and ground test prototypes, including system-level and subsystem-level design efforts
- Deliver technical output across the full design lifecycle — concept, preliminary design, detailed design, and test support — for high-speed propulsion programs
- Drive programs toward TRL 6–7 maturity by establishing rigorous design processes, review gates, and engineering standards
- Manage team performance, workload allocation, and professional development for design engineers across the program
- Collaborate closely with systems engineering, program management, and test organizations to align design scope with schedule and technical requirements
- Lead and participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and configuration control activities
- Serve as an individual contributor on complex technical challenges, providing direct engineering judgment where depth of expertise is required
- Support proposal development and customer engagements with technical expertise in hypersonic propulsion design
What We're Looking For
- A degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in aerospace propulsion or high-speed vehicle design, with a track record of delivering hardware to flight or test readiness
- Prior experience managing or leading engineering design teams in a program environment
- Familiarity with Technology Readiness Level frameworks and the rigor required to mature systems from concept through TRL 6–7
- Strong grasp of design engineering tools, processes, and configuration management practices common to aerospace development programs
- Effective communicator who can translate complex technical topics for diverse stakeholders including leadership and customers
- Experience working within DOD or government-sponsored aerospace programs is a plus
