The Cumberland County School District is hiring a dependable Substitute Bus Driver in Cumberland, Cumberland County, to help keep students moving safely on the days our regular drivers are away. About the Role
As a Substitute Bus Driver with the Cumberland County School District, you'll step in to operate a school bus along assigned routes throughout Cumberland County, transporting children to and from school and related activities. This full-time, on-site position is ideal for safety-minded drivers who want flexible, meaningful work within their local community.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from school and district-sponsored activities along assigned routes.
- Operate and inspect a school bus in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and district policies.
- Maintain order and a secure environment for passengers throughout each trip.
- Accurately read route information and complete required driver forms and reports.
- Fill in for regular bus drivers as scheduling needs arise.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Hold a valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the proper endorsements — including the P and S endorsements and air brakes.
- Demonstrate a clean driving record and good overall health.
- Be drug-free and willing to participate in random drug testing.
- Understand the operation and function of a school bus along with the laws that govern its use.
- Ability to read route details and correctly complete required documentation.
